Irene Serrano

When I came across Irene Serrano's work I found it very intriguing. She uses a variety of cameras and techniques, and the work is very experimental and unique.

Where Children Sleep

Photographer James Mollison did a very interesting series called Where Children Sleep, in which he photographed children from numerous cultures and their bedrooms. The idea sort of reminded me of Peter Menzel's series about food intake in different cultures. I really enjoy concepts like this, and I think his diptychs are very successful.

DIY

I've been obsessed with DIY home decor lately. I came across this tutorial for rolled paper flowers and knew I could do something fun with them since it's an easy, cheap project. I decided to spray paint my black Ikea wall mirror an ivory color to match my bedding, and hot glue paper flowers in the corners.

I have also been wanting to make something better to hang my jewelry from using some of the leftover branches from my curtain rod project. While wandering around Michael's I found chalkboard spray paint and had the idea of a chalkboard/necklace hanger thing. This is what happened:

The flowers, silver leaves and chain all came from jewelry I don't wear. Might as well use it for something.

Fall

Sunday, September 18, 2011 § 0

I love fall. The weather has been absolutely perfect this weekend, and there's just so many more fun activities to do in the fall than any other time of year. Not to mention fall fashion is by far the best (boots, anyone?). Today was a perfect day for a relaxing run in the park followed by a picnic.

Chris caught me after my run

The first thing we saw when we got to the park was this car. Creepy.

Linda McCartney

So I never knew until the other day that Linda McCartney was a photographer. I can't believe I have never seen her work before now, because she made some really incredible stuff.

Rineke Dijkstra

I saw the work of Dutch photographer Rineke Dijkstra in an art museum a couple of years ago (I'm pretty sure it was the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati), and her work stuck with me. I was especially intrigued by her series of Almerisa, a Bosnian girl who Dijkstra photographed every year. Her work is very minimal, intimate and timeless. Click here to read an interview with Dijkstra about her work.

Lisa Loftus

I don't know a ton about fashion photography, but these photos by Lisa Loftus caught my eye. Her work is fun, clean and sexy. And of course it doesn't hurt that we share the same first name :)

Mad World

Monday, September 12, 2011 § 2

Lately I've been kind of obsessed with Mad Men. I had never seen it until recently when I watched it on Netflix, and now I'm addicted. I absolutely adore the fashion from that time and wish I could wear pretty little hats and gloves everyday. Keeping in tune with my '60s mindset, I thought some of Garry Winogrand's infamous street photography (and some of his others) would be appropriate for today's post.

Beebies

Saturday, September 10, 2011 § 0

Last weekend I took some pictures of my friend Roxie's baby, Kylie, and her friend Amie's baby, Maci. It was extremely hot and muggy that day (we went to a park to take the pictures) and the poor little beebs were not having it, but I did get a few good photos.

This was their breaking point.
